How many porta potties do I need?
For a construction or renovation crew, start with OSHA's sanitation standard for construction, 29 CFR 1926.51: at least one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, and at least one toilet seat and one urinal for every 40 workers beyond that. One serviced unit covers most Yonkers home renovation crews.
For a party or event, the count depends on the guest count, how many hours it runs, and whether food and drinks are served. Give the provider all three numbers and let them size it. Running short is worse than having one spare: lines form, units fill early, and the last hours of the event are unpleasant.
Do I need an accessible unit?
For anything open to the public, plan on it. The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design call for at least 5 percent of the portable toilets in each cluster, and no fewer than one, to be accessible. A private backyard party is a different case, but if a guest uses a wheelchair or walker, book one anyway.
Should I add a handwashing station?
Yes, if food is being served, if children will use the units, or if the crew handles concrete, tar, paint or demolition debris. Stations need refilling, so they go on the service schedule with the toilets.
How far ahead should I book?
For a job site, a week or so is usually enough outside peak season. For events on graduation and summer weekends, book several weeks ahead. Same-day delivery is often possible when you call early; ask when you call.
Placement on Yonkers properties
Where should the unit go?
On firm, level ground the delivery truck can reach, within a short carry of the curb or driveway. Driveways, paved lots and compacted gravel are ideal. Avoid soft lawn, steep slopes, spots up flights of steps, and low corners that pond after rain.

Park and trail locations, like the wooded edges of the green spaces around Yonkers, work the same way: the unit sits on a small gravel or paved pad by a road the service truck can drive.
My house is on a steep street. Can I still rent one?
Usually. Many west-side Yonkers homes sit above the street with steps up to the door, and the driveway is often the only level spot. Walk the route the delivery person will take and describe it on the call: gates, steps, cars, slopes. If there is no level ground within a short carry, the provider may suggest a spot near the street.
Can a unit go on the sidewalk or in the street?
Sometimes, but do not assume it. Placing anything on a public sidewalk or roadway may need permission from the City of Yonkers. Check with the city before you plan on it, and leave the sidewalk passable.
Do I need a permit for an event?
Events in public parks and on closed streets usually need the organizer to arrange permission, through the City of Yonkers for city property or Westchester County Parks for county parks. The rules and fees are theirs, so ask them first. Private events on private property usually do not involve the city, but check any condo, co-op or association rules.
What about apartment buildings?
Ask the superintendent or managing agent where a unit can stand, and give their number to the provider. Rear lots and service alleys often work. Keep the unit clear of parking spaces and garbage areas.
Servicing and use
How often is a unit serviced?
Job-site rentals are usually serviced once a week: pump-out, cleaning, fresh deodorizer and new paper. Heavier use needs more visits. Events may get a mid-event visit if they run long.
What should go in a porta potty?
Only human waste and toilet paper. Wipes, paper towels, sanitary products, food, paint and trash make the tank harder to pump and can lead to extra charges. Put a trash can outside the door.
What happens in winter?
Units that stay out through freezing weather need winterizing so the tank does not freeze solid. Expect a small charge per billing cycle. Keep the door and the truck route clear of snow, and keep plow piles away from the unit.
Can I get lighting inside?
Some providers offer solar or battery lights for units used after dark. Ask when you book if your event or shift runs into the evening.
Quotes and the referral
Why is this a referral service?
Because the goal is to get you a unit from a company that already runs trucks in your area, without you calling around. We take the details once and pass them on. The provider sets the price, owns the equipment and is responsible for the service.
What should the quote list?
Unit types and counts, the rental period, the service schedule, delivery and pickup charges, winterization if relevant, and the damage terms. The services page has the full checklist, and the cost guide has published market ranges to compare against.
Can I call to ask questions before booking?
Yes. Call (914) 635-4437. There is no charge for a quote.
